Secure the phone
Use an Android screen lock, keep the operating system updated and take care when allowing anyone else to use the device.
Current release status
Encrypted cloud backup and restore are disabled in the current Remem release. Signing in does not upload your memories, and there is no current Remem cloud copy from which to restore them.
Account is not backup
Signing in creates or connects your Remem account. It is separate from the memories stored locally on your Android device.
Signing in alone does not upload pins, note text, locations, photos or recordings.
The encrypted cloud backup and restore controls are disabled in the current release. There is no current action that creates a restorable Remem cloud backup.
If availability changes, Remem will state the new behaviour in the app and update this page before users should rely on it.
Protect local data
Remem’s current memories are local app data. Removing the app, clearing its storage, losing the device or suffering device failure may remove that data. Remem disables Android device backup, so do not assume Android will restore it automatically.
Different kinds of copy
| Option | Current purpose | Restorable into Remem? |
|---|---|---|
| CSV export | Use selected unarchived pin details in a spreadsheet. | No |
| GPX export | Use unarchived located pins in compatible mapping tools. | No |
| Technical local-data download | Obtain a technical copy of local data. | No |
| Encrypted cloud backup | Disabled in the current release. | No current backup exists |
Accurate security language
“Encrypted backup and restore” is the name of a planned capability, not a claim that this release is uploading an encrypted copy. Remem does not describe the current release as providing end-to-end encrypted or zero-knowledge cloud backup.
